How to evaluate new wireless and cellular modules before locking the product platform

Choosing a wireless or cellular module is not only about the headline spec. Integration depth, certification path, firmware maturity, antenna impact and supply continuity matter just as much.

How to evaluate new wireless and cellular modules before locking the product platform

New connectivity components appear constantly, but a better module on paper is not always a better platform decision.

When teams compare wireless and cellular options, they should look at the full integration picture: firmware tooling, bring-up effort, RF implications, host interface behaviour, long-term availability and how the module fits regulatory and productisation goals.

That is particularly true for products using Nordic, Realtek, Quectel or mixed connectivity paths where firmware and hardware decisions strongly affect each other.

A disciplined evaluation process helps avoid late-stage platform changes and keeps product risk visible before the design hardens.

Early PCB architecture questions that prevent expensive redesigns

Many hardware delays begin before layout starts. Early architecture choices around interfaces, power, stack-up and mechanical constraints can remove weeks of rework later.
